As roads repeatedly freeze and thaw throughout the winter, the “potholes”—often described as ticking time bombs on the road surface—are putting local governments nationwide on alert. Amid these growing concerns, Dareesoft, an AI-based road analysis solution provider, is drawing attention with its advanced detection technology.
Dareesoft’s core service, RiaaS (Road Information as a Service), uses AI devices mounted on vehicles to detect more than 12 types of road hazards—including potholes, cracks, and fallen debris—in real time during regular driving operations.

Roads during Spring Thaw and the Surge in Potholes Driven by Cumulative Structural Stress

As the 2026 spring thaw season begins, local governments and road management agencies across the country are on heightened alert. Although last winter’s precipitation levels were close to average, frequent temperature fluctuations—repeatedly rising above and dropping below freezing—caused continuous expansion and contraction beneath asphalt pavement, significantly weakening overall road durability.
In particular, the thawing season from February to April accounts for more than 20% of the annual occurrence of potholes. Fine cracks that are difficult to detect with the naked eye can rapidly evolve into large potholes when subjected to vehicle loads, posing serious risks to driver safety. Proactive and timely intervention is therefore more critical than ever.

The Need for a Proven Solution: “Post-Incident Response Alone Is No Longer Sufficient”

Over the past five years, national compensation payouts related to pothole damage have surged. As a result, local governments are shifting from complaint-driven, reactive responses toward establishing preventive management systems. However, with limited manpower, manually patrolling extensive road networks presents significant practical challenges.
In this context, Dareesoft’s RiaaS, a specialized AI-driven road analysis solution, has already been adopted by numerous local governments nationwide. Its effectiveness has been thoroughly validated in real-world environments, contributing to the digital transformation of road administration.

Dareesoft’s RiaaS Lowers Barriers to Adoption for Local Governments Through Innovative Product Designation

RiaaS detects road surface damage in real time through dedicated AI devices mounted on vehicles and transmits the data to a centralized management server. The solution has been officially designated as an Innovative Product by Korea’s Public Procurement Service, recognizing both its technological excellence and public value.
As an Innovative Product, RiaaS is eligible for purchase by local governments and public institutions through sole-source contracts in accordance with relevant regulations. Such procurement also contributes toward each institution’s Innovative Product purchasing targets. This framework enables municipalities to rapidly deploy advanced road management systems without lengthy and complex bidding procedures—an especially critical advantage during urgent response periods such as the spring thaw season.

“In 2026, Protecting the Golden Time of Road Safety with Advanced Technology”

In alignment with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s “2026 Spring Thaw Safety Inspection” guidelines, Dareesoft’s RiaaS service has established itself as a key component of modern municipal road management infrastructure. Road data collected 24 hours a day in real time plays a decisive role in identifying hazards early and preventing major accidents.
A Dareesoft representative stated, “RiaaS has not only proven its performance and reliability in the field, but as an Innovative Product, it also offers streamlined adoption for local governments. We will continue to advance our technology and services to protect citizens’ lives and property from spring thaw potholes.
